The (CMHS) cheerleading team won first place at the inaugural State CIF Championship. Since becoming a CIF sanctioned sport in 2018, the CMHS Cheer Team has won the Division 4AA championships every year* for a total of three annual Southern Section championships and placed first at the inaugural State Championship. “Winning CIF for the third consecutive year and then going on to win the first CIF State cheer competition is a tremendous accomplishment,” said Cheer Coach Kori Johnson. “We have been advocating for cheer to be recognized by CIF for several years, and are overjoyed to see our student athlete’s skill, dedication, and commitment recognized and rewarded with a first place win at the inaugural competition. In addition to winning CIF this year, CMHS also won silver at the competing against 88 teams throughout the country. The 23 member CO-ED CMHS Cheer Team team performed exceptionally in all competitions, scoring more than five points higher than the second place team in the CIF Southern Section 4AA championship, more than 11 points higher than the second place team in the State CIF championship, and scoring more than eighth points higher than their nearest competitor in the national competition. *Note: CIF Southern Section did not host a competition in 2021 due to COVID-19.
