School Schedules & Distance Learning Expectations

We would like to share some information related to expectations of Distance Learning and school schedules for the start of school on August 24. On August 18 teachers officially returned to work and schools worked with teachers to finalize schedules. If your school has not yet shared with you a final school schedule, they will by Friday. They also will communicate other important information related to the start of school via Distance Learning. First week of school ONLY – August 24 – 28, 2020 Student instruction will occur in the morning via Distance Learning (up until lunch time, per each school’s schedule) and will focus on building connections, creating community and routines In the afternoon teachers will be engaged in professional development and preparation time School Schedules While each school’s schedule may vary, all schedules will include the following parameters: Elementary: Each school schedule will have the same start and end times as the 2019-20 school year Daily, live (synchronous) whole class “morning meeting” Daily, live English Language Arts/English Language Development and mathematics instruction Social studies and science is integrated into English and mathematics instruction Wednesday minimum day Consistent teacher office hours for parent/student questions and support Daily, live and asynchronous minutes for instruction consistent with parameters outlined on page 11 (Level 3- Distance Learning) of the Secondary: Each school schedule will have the same start and end times as the 2019-20 school year Schedules will follow the odd and even schedule format Each academic period will include daily 20-30 minutes of live (synchronous) instruction per class Daily, live and asynchronous minutes for instruction consistent with parameters outlined on page 11 (Level 3- Distance Learning) of the Consistent teacher office hours for parent/student questions and support Instructional Minute Parameters Grade Level Live Instruction (synchronous) Asynchronous Combined Total Instruction (synchronous and asynchronous) TK-Kindergarten 60-90 minutes per day 90-120 minutes per day 180 minutes Grade 1-3 60-90 minutes per day 140-170 minutes per day 230 minutes Grade 4-12 60-90 minutes per day 150-180 minutes per day 240 minute We thank you for your patience as schools work to create consistent and meaningful Distance Learning expectations in support of teacher preparedness and student learning.
