2021 Standardized State Testing

As you may know, each year in the Spring, we are responsible for administering the Smarter Balanced California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) to students in grades 3–8 and 11. On March 16, 2021, the California State Board of Education (SBE) took action to move forward with the administration of the CAASPP for the 2020-21 year, but with great sensitivity to the additional stress that annual assessments can place on teachers and students. Based on this action, the current Spring administration of the CAASPP has been adjusted to provide additional flexibility to school districts, including the testing window being extended to the end of the school year. Below is an overview of the standardized assessments that will be given to NMUSD students for the 2020-2021 school year. Schools will provide assessment details specific to their schools, including dates and schedules. GRADES 3-8 Smarter Balanced Assessment – Math This assessment will continue to be administered this school year. Renaissance Learning STAR Reading Assessment This assessment will replace the Smarter Balanced Assessment for English Language Arts. This assessment is used often in our District and is a good predictor of the Smarter Balanced Assessment for English Language Arts. It is a local assessment being used throughout the district that meets the Federal and State requirements, while also reducing the amount of lost instructional time due to testing. GRADE 11 Smarter Balanced Assessment – Math English Language Arts These assessments will be administered this school year as usual. GRADES 5, 8, 11, 12 California Science Test (CAST) This assessment will not be administered this school year. As always, student results on each assessment administered will be sent to families in the summer. For more information about NMUSD testing and assessments, please visit the .
