A brown pelican skims the water in the Harbor entrance channel.

The entrance to Newport Harbor has been temporarily closed to vessel traffic due to the oil spill off the coast of Newport Beach and Huntington Beach.

The action is being taken to help prevent oil from entering the harbor. There is currently no evidence of oil in the harbor waters.

Boats will be stopped from entering or exiting the harbor at the Entrance Channel. Vessels may continue to operate within the harbor.
