Full Day Instruction Updates

Reminder: Elementary Schools Transition to Full Day Instruction On April 21 Friday, April 9, 2021, will be a remote learning day All elementary schools are scheduled to transition to Level 1 – full day instruction beginning Wednesday, April 21, 2021 . In order to allow our teachers and staff to prepare for this transition, Friday, April 9, 2021, will be a remote learning day for all elementary students, including Special Day Classes. School principals will communicate with parents the exact schedule for this day. Elementary schools will return to the 2019-2020 schedule Start and end times will be the same as the 2019-2020 schedule. All students will report to school at the designated start time and there will no longer be an AM/PM cohort or hybrid schedule. The District will continue to adhere to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines, which include: Face coverings Optimized ventilation HEPA air cleaners Plexiglass between students Space between students in classrooms will be maximized, with efforts to maintain six feet, but no less than 3 feet Playgrounds will be available for students Each school is finalizing plans to rotate playground and outdoor activities to meet social distancing guidelines (Updated 4/2/2021) Staff is finalizing plans for a smooth and safe transition to full day instruction and principals will share details of the transition as they finalize their plans. Board of Education to Consider Secondary School Transition to Full Day In-person Instruction The Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of Education will consider transitioning secondary schools (grades 7-12) to full day in-person instruction at a on Thursday, April 8, 2021. The consideration is for secondary schools to transition to full day in-person instruction four days and maintain one day of distance learning per week, starting the week of April 26, 2021. This action would not apply to Cloud Campus, which is a 100% virtual learning school, and Back Bay/Monte Vista High Schools, which are already serving students full days in their current model. Additional details: Schools will maintain their current schedule, including at home learning Cohorts A and B will be combined and required to attend in-person 4-days a week, with distance learning 1-day a week The District will continue to adhere to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines, which include: Face coverings Optimized ventilation HEPA air cleaners Space between seating and desks in classrooms will be maximized and aligned to the current CDPH guidance. We will update you later this week about the status of transitioning secondary schools to full day in-person instruction. REMINDER: FULL DAY SCHEDULE FOR FALL 2021 With the exception of the state prohibiting districts from opening with a full day model, our District intends to provide full-day instruction for all TK-12 grade students in fall 2021. In addition, we will continue to offer the 100 percent virtual school, Cloud Campus, as an alternative.
