Mr. Bear’s Newport-Mesa Adventure

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) transportation team was tasked with a very important mission: find Mr. Bear! Newport-Mesa elementary student Allana misplaced her beloved Mr. Bear, her companion since birth. With the help of her family, she asked the transportation team to check if she may have left him on the bus before schools were closed. She and her family urged our team to please help find Mr. Bear and get him home safely. NMUSD bus drivers Scott Parks and Robert Bremmer safely located Mr. Bear. While Allana and her family did not notify us about Mr. Bear until recently, Mr. Parks and Mr. Bremmer immediately found Mr. Bear and realized that he had taken an eventful adventure throughout the District, helping provide services to our District. Mr. Bear wrote a loving letter to Allana about his adventures and has now been reunited with Allana. Mr. Bear’s letter to Allana: Hi Allana!! I have missed you SO much. It’s wonderful to be home. I wanted to tell you a little bit about my adventures in the last few months. I have been very busy answering phones, cleaning buses, and making sure all the drivers are properly trained so that when school starts again we’ll be ready. I spent some time fixing computers and mowing the lawns at schools. I helped make sure that students got lunches so they would not go hungry. I helped deliver supplies to the schools. I helped the mechanics start the buses. I even sat in Zoom meetings with all the District leadership who are trying their best to be ready when school opens. This was all very important stuff and I learned a lot but now I’m ready to be home. I thought about you every day while I was working but I always knew you would be OK because you are the bravest, most fantastic girl in the world to me. Love, Mr. Bear
