Ms. Sarah Coley Selected as Administrative Director of Student Services

Ms. Sarah Coley was selected as the Administrative Director I, overseeing the Student and Community Services Department, which includes mental health and wellness, restorative practices, student attendance, and other student-centered supports and initiatives. Ms. Coley has more than eleven years experience in education, including most recently serving as the Coordinator of Student Services for Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD). She began her educational career with Green Dot Public Schools in Los Angeles as a math teacher and then moved to the Huntington Beach Union High School District as a math intervention teacher, before transitioning to a Teacher on Special Assignment position, where she provided curriculum leadership and was instrumental in implementing and supporting restorative practices districtwide. She also has presented on restorative practices at the California Multi-Tiered Support Services Professional Learning Institute, and served as the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Coordinator, among other leadership roles. As Coordinator of Student Services for NMUSD, Ms. Coley has managed multiple student support programs including implementation of effective restorative practices, oversight of the Positive Behavior and Support (PBIS) initiative, homeless and foster youth supports, and she served on the School Attendance Review Board to address student needs in support of improving student attendance and achievement. Ms. Coley uses her strong collaboration and team building skills in her approach to delivering professional development for school administrators and staff, as well as hosting parent education workshops to engage parents in their child’s education. “Ms. Coley’s knowledge of the community and district programs and services, her breadth of experience within Student Services, her ability to listen and problem solve, along with her calm demeanor, make her the right fit for this position,” said Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services Dr. Sara Jocham. “She will provide leadership for the Student Services team and strong support to the school sites, parents, and students,” she said. Ms. Coley obtained her Masters of Arts in Educational Administration and Administrative Services Credential; Single Subject Credential in Foundational Math; a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Marketing and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics, with a minor in Speech Communication, all from California State University, Long Beach.
