Newport-Mesa Announces New Staff

Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Josh Hill as principal of Corona del Mar High School, Ms. Kristen Henry as a coordinator of mental health and outreach services, and Ms. Shoshana Yudin as the Director of Personnel. Mr. Josh Hill, Principal, Corona del Mar High School Mr. Josh Hill was selected as the new principal of Corona del Mar High School, starting July 31, 2020. Mr. Hill has nearly 20 years of experience in education, most recently serving as the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, secondary in Capistrano Unified School District. While at Capistrano Unified, the fifth largest district in the State, he spearheaded curriculum adoptions, career technical education programs, employee professional development, and supported the District’s goals toward academic achievement. Prior to his current administration role, Mr. Hill was principal at two Capistrano Unified high schools where he contributed to student progress and implemented sustainable programs for college and career readiness. He led his team to a successful Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation review and fostered the improvement of student learning in English language arts and mathematics. He is recognized as a warm, collaborative, and effective leader who prioritizes a school culture, focused on student well-being and high levels of learning for all students. “We are excited to have Mr. Hill join Newport-Mesa and feel that he will be a strong leader for the Corona del Mar community,” said Assistant Superintendent, Chief Human Resources Officer Ms. Leona Olson. Mr. Hill obtained his Administrative Services Credential from the University of Redlands, a Masters of Arts in Military History from Norwich University, and his Bachelor of Arts in History Teaching from Brigham Young University. Ms. Kristen Henry, Coordinator of Mental Health and Outreach Services Ms. Kristen Henry was selected as a coordinator of mental health and outreach services. Ms. Kristen Henry has more than 16 years of experience in education and since 2017 has served as coordinator of special education for NMUSD. As coordinator of special education, she spearheaded trauma-informed training for school teams and various departments, identified supports and resources for schools to address their social-emotional learning (SEL) needs, and fostered district-wide collaboration among social workers, counselors, and psychologists in developing a more cohesive approach to the assessment process to determine targeted supports for students. Prior to joining NMUSD, Ms. Henry served as a mental health program specialist for Santa Ana Unified School District, where she led the coordination of community services and developed resources to support student growth and learning. She provided leadership and guidance to the special education teams, district-wide mental health professionals, and school administration to improve the special education program. “We are excited to have Ms. Henry in this role,” said Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services Dr. Sara Jocham. “Her collaborative leadership dedicated to addressing the social-emotional and mental health of all students will be a great fit as we move forward with an emphasis on Multi-Tiered Systems of Support,” she said. Ms. Henry received her Masters Degree in Education Counseling, and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in school psychology from California State University, Dominguez Hills. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Clemson University in South Carolina and a post-graduate certificate in School Neuropsychology from Texas Woman’s University. Ms. Shoshana Yudin, Director of Personnel Ms. Shoshana Yudin was selected as the Director of Personnel, starting July 13, 2020. Ms. Yudin has more than 20 years of experience in education, most recently serving as the director of human resources in Rowland Unified School District. While at Rowland Unified, she delineated recruitment and hiring procedures to expand the District’s reach and increase applicants, conducted investigations, and provided guidance related to represented employee contract language, Education Code, and Board policies. Additionally, she planned, coordinated, and led professional development and training programs for staff. Prior to her serving Rowland Unified, Ms. Yudin was the director of human resources in the Westminster School District, where she fostered a culture of open communication with administrators and employee groups. She also developed new employee orientation initiatives and professional learning development programs. She is recognized as a valuable leader that prioritizes a positive work culture, focused on providing the best possible working environment to support student learning. “Ms. Yudin’s experience in human resources and as a program specialist will add a new depth to our team as we support our employees. We are thrilled to have her join us.” said Assistant Superintendent, Chief Human Resources Officer Ms. Leona Olson. Ms. Yudin obtained her Master of Science in Educational Administration from California State University, Fullerton, and her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University, Long Beach.
