Newport-Mesa Approves Contract with Interim Superintendent

Board of Education approved a contract with Dr. Henry Bangser as interim superintendent. Dr. Bangser will officially start on August 3, 2021, but will immediately begin work with outgoing superintendent, Russell Lee-Sung, for a seamless transition. Dr. Bangser has 31 years of experience as a superintendent and is committed to learning as quickly as possible about key district initiatives, facilitating focused discussions, and professionally and quickly making decisions and communicating them clearly. He served as superintendent of schools for Ojai Unified School District, Pelham Union Free School District in New York, and multiple school districts in Illinois. Prior to his experience as superintendent, Dr. Bangser served as a high school principal, assistant principal, and teacher. “We are pleased to have Dr. Bangser lead our district as we continue the search for the next superintendent,” said Board of Education President Karen Yelsey. “The Board has confidence that Dr. Bangser’s experience will provide a high-quality bridge to our next district leader,” she said. Dr. Bangser obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Williams College; his Master of Arts in Teaching and his Doctorate in Educational Administration from Northwestern University.
