No in-person instruction will occur on October 27, 2020

Earlier today a wildfire in the Santiago/Silverado Canyon area began early this morning and rapidly grew due to the high winds and dry conditions. Though we are not affected by the fire, the smoke has spread into our community, particularly in the Corona del Mar/Newport Beach areas, and affected many of our schools. Due to these conditions all Corona del Mar Zone elementary schools and SDC students at CdM High school and Middles schools initiated an early student dismissal during their morning session and cancelled in-person instruction for the afternoon. Our other schools less impacted by the smoke in the Newport Harbor, Costa Mesa and Estancia zones completed their morning cohort but also cancelled in-person instruction for the afternoon session. All schools continued to provide instruction via distance learning as much as possible due to this emergency. I want to thank our teachers, staff, principals and parents who were impacted and for making quick adjustments in response to the smoke. We also hope that the fire will quickly be controlled by the Orange County Fire Authority and that all residents in the evacuation area remain safe. Based on the latest information regarding the wildfire and excessive smoke in our area, our schools, including elementary, special education SDC (preschool-adult), and state and tuition preschools will provide instruction via distance learning only on October 27. No in-person instruction will occur on campus tomorrow, October 27, 2020. Your student’s school principal or teacher will provide additional information to you. Thank you for your patience and understanding and further updates will be provided to you.
